Alan lived a block away when I grew up. We had many friends in common, but I got to know him better after graduating college. I think he moved in with his wife a few days after he met her, and married her shortly thereafter. He was a kind, gentle and deep soul who was best friends with Paul Frankel. Paul shared the news of Alan's tragic and untimely death about two decades ago. If I recall correctly, Alan had learned to fly a plane, and died after it crashed.
