School Story
I'm so glad that I went to E.T.H.S. It was wonderful for me. I was in debate, and participated in Ya mo for two years, and appeared in a production of the musical ONCE UPON A MATTRESS, and CAMELOT. I was also in the play THE DEATH AND LIFE OF SNEAKY FITCH, and MY SISTER EILEEN. And I really enjoyed being a part of an Oral Interpretation Showcase, presented in the observatory. I simply LOVE poetry.
I attended the University of Iowa, where I was an English major, and graduated in 1975. I had so many marvelous professors in one of the top ranked English Departments in the country. And I played the part of Mendel, the Rabbi's son, in a production of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, during the first semester of my Senior year.
Following Iowa, I did some graduate work in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations, at Northern Illinois University, in DeKalb, IL.
And at age 37, I embarked on a teacher certification program at Northeastern Illinois University, in Chicago--for Secondary Education/English.
After completing that rigorous program, I did a lot of substitute teaching, but was never able to find a full-time teaching position in my field. However, I had so many wonderful subbing experiences at Niles North High School, Niles West High School, Maine East High School, Maine West High School, Lincoln Park High School, Lincoln Jr. High in Park Ridge, the Chicago City Day School, in Chicago, and was a permanent Sub for a period of a year, at Warren Township High School, in Gurnee, IL.
